Dusting off the blog

Hey there!  Just getting the blog caught up with all the exciting goings on concerning the block.

October was the big annual meeting and three new board members were elected – Angela Howard of Urbhana, Paula Clancy of Nouveau Classics, and Andrea Monk a resident in Sterchi Lofts.  It was a great meeting with business owners, property owners, and residents getting the opportunity to voice their opinions about the future direction of the block. And if you were unable to attend the meeting, but you would like to get involved in the block, please contact the board and we’ll let you know about upcoming board meetings you can attend and other ways you can get involved on the block.

I want to take this opportunity to say a fond farewell to retailer Eleven, who closed shop at the end of October. I know that I for one will definitely miss their beautiful displays in the shop window. But as life in a city is never in stasis for very long, we can look forward to a new business moving in there in the very near future, 11 Cafe. I spoke with Mr. Moussa the owner and he told me his cafe will carry pastries, coffees, beer, wine, and cheeses. So that is a very exciting development and I can’t wait to see the cafe up and running. Be sure to stop in and welcome Mr. Moussa to the block.

Also, I never got a chance to welcome lululemon to the block. They have taken the storefront formerly occupied by Unarmed Merchants. They sell a variety of yoga and athletic wear. They also have different events in their showroom. Stop in and find out more information about their running club or the occasional complimentary class they offer on Saturday mornings.

And, it looks like we will be welcoming a couple more new restaurants to the block in the near future. But I’ll save that news for a future blog entry.

Now, to address the panhandling issue we all have on the block, please check out this brochure put out by the 100 Block Association (click on the images for a larger version):
